Around the Minors: July 3, 2008

Here is last night’s minor league roundup:

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre vs. Lehigh Valley
● Suspended – Rain

Trenton 4, Portland 0 – Double-AA
● RHP Jason Jones (9-3) allowed two hits over seven shutout innings. He struck out seven.
● CF Austin Jackson (.274) was 2-for-4.
● RHP Mark Melancon pitched two shutout innings in relief. He stuck out two.
● RF Edwar Gonzalez (.288) went 2-for-3 with a double.
● 2B Reegie Corona (.273) also doubled. He was 1-for-3.
● LF Colin Curtis (.260) had two hits in four at bats.

Fort Myers 2, Tampa 1 – Class-A Advanced
● The Yankees wasted a strong start by RHP Ivan Nova (3-10). Nova went seven innings and allowed two runs.
● 2B Luis Nunez (.257) tripled.
● CF Seth Fortenberry was 2-for-3 with a double.

Augusta 5, Charleston 4 – Class-A
● 3B Brad Suttle (.285) homered twice in the loss. He went 3-for-4 for the game. He's hitting .373 in his last 51 AB's with 5 doubles and 2 triples.
C Jesus Montero (.300) doubled, his lone hit in four at bats.
● CF Abraham Almonte (.267) had two hits in five plate appearances.

Staten Island 10, Mahoning Valley 1 – Class-A Short-Season
● DH Brian Baisley (.294) had two hits in three at bats. He doubled, singled and walked.
RF Daniel Brewer (.288) was 2-for-4. He drove in three runs.
● C Mitch Abeita (.250) had three RBI. He doubled and singled in three at bats.
LF Jack Rye (.318) was 2-for-4 with two RBI.
3B Michael Lyon (.318) was 1-for-2 with three walks.
● RHP Luke Greinke went 4 2/3 innings. He scattered three hits and struck out six.
RHP Brad Rulon (1-0) picked up the win with 1 1/3 innings in relief.
Switch-pitcher Patrick Venditte pitched a scoreless ninth inning. He struck out two.
