Here is tonight’s minor league roundup:

Buffalo 1, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre 1 – Triple-A

  • The Yankees wasted a fine start by RHP Jeff Karstens. Karstens went seven innings and allowed one run on four hits.
  • Eric Duncan, Matt Carson and Chris Basak each had two hits.
  • Trailing 1-0 in the ninth, pinch-hitter J.D. Closser delivered a two-out RBI double.
  • SUSPENDED - Final.
Portland 5, Trenton 3 – Double-A

  • After a three-inning save his last time out, RHP Mark Melancon went 3 2/3 innings last night. Melancon was tagged for three runs but struck out five.
  • OF Jose Tabata went 2-for-3 with a walk.
  • OF Austin Jackson (1-for-5) tripled.
Tampa 4, Palm Beach 1 – Class A Advanced

  • RHP Jason Stephens (2-0) pitched six strong innings. He scattered seven hits and three walks, allowing just one run.
  • RF James Cooper and 1B Kevin Smith each had two hits.
Columbus 12, Charleston 3 – Class A
  • RHP Chace Vacek was roughed up to the tune of six runs in an inning.
  • C Austin Romine went 2-for-4 with two RBI.
  • DH Jesus Montero went hitless in four at bats.

Staten Island 4, Hudson Valley 3 – Class A Short-Season

  • 2B David Adams (.290) had three singles and scored a run. He swiped two bases and scored the winning run from third in the bottom of the eighth after an errant pickoff attempt.
  • Switch-pitcher Patrick Venditte picked up his first win. Venditte pitched a perfect inning and a third.
  • RF Jack Rye saw his first action since signing; He went 2-for-three with a double and a stolen base.

In the Gulf Coast League (Rookie), RHP Humberto Sanchez pitched a scoreless inning. In his second appearance back from Tommy John surgery, Sanchez allowed one hit and struck out one.
