South Florida R/R, 6-1, 195
Hometown: Pinellas Park, Fl.

Status: Signed, Reporting to Staten Island Yankees (A)

Perhaps already known to Yankee fans as a result of some good-natured trash talking with Joba Chamberlain prior to an exhibition this spring, Addison Maruszak was taken in the 17th round (530th Overall) of the 2008 MLB Draft.

Maruszak, a three-year starter, showed improvement each year at USF. Splitting time between shortstop and third base, he hit .284 as a rookie, .329 his sophomore year and .364 in 2008. This season Maruszak tallied 84 hits, 55 runs and six home runs while posting a .474 on base percentage. He was named second-team All-Big East.

Tino Martinez, a volunteer assistant for the Bulls, was an official Yankees representative at the draft in Orlando.

There has been speculation that Maruszak may be converted to a catcher because of his strong arm, but as yet, no discussions have taken place. He will open the season at shortstop for the Staten Island Yankees.
