Sally League All-Star Game Tuesday

Saly League All-Star GameThe cream of the Yankees’ Charleston RiverDogs (A) will be on display Tuesday night in the South Atlantic League (SAL) All-Star Game at NewBridge Bank Park in Greensboro, NC, home of the Greensboro Grasshoppers.

Representing the Yankees, Charleston RiverDogs catcher Jesus Montero (.308, 6 HRs, 40 RBI) gets the start behind the plate.

The second-place RiverDogs have six All-Stars. Joining Montero, 18, are pitchers Jason Stephens, Lance Pendleton and Jonathan Ortiz as well as outfielder Abraham Almonte and second baseman Justin Snyder.

C Jesus Montero, New York YankeesMontero, the No.6 overall prospect in the Yankees organization according to Baseball America, will also compete in the South Atlantic League Home Run Derby (5:15pm). With just seven home runs (good enough to lead the RiverDogs), Montero is considered a considerable underdog. Hickory’s Miles Durham (Pittsburgh) is considered the favorite with 12 home runs.

The game is scheduled to start at 7:00pm. Ryan Miller (Cleveland) starts for the South against Jhoulys Chacin (Colorado) for the North.

The Home Run Derby will begin at 5:15 pm, with two preliminary rounds including all seven participants. Each contestant will get 10 outs in the first round and six in the second, and the two leaders will move on to the finals.

The championship will be held later in the night, following the completion of the second inning of the All-Star Game, which will commence at 7 pm.
