For the Yankees: Tonight’s starter Mike Mussina hasn’t lost to Texas since 2003. He is 6-0 with a 2.72 ERA in his last nine starts against the Rangers and has 17 career wins versus the franchise. Mussina looks to match Joe Saunders and Cliff Lee for the AL lead in wins tonight with his eleventh … New York’s pitching staff ranks eighth in the AL in ERA (4.21) … Mariano Rivera is a perfect 22-for-22 in save chances and has an ERA of 0.74 … Alex Rodriguez, a former Ranger, ranks in the AL’s top 10 for five major categories: batting average (4th - .322), homers (8th – 15), OBP (4th - .404), SLG (2nd - .591), and OBP (2nd - .995) ... RHP Sidney Ponson starts against his former team Wednesday. Released by the Texas Rangers for off-field issues, Ponson scattered five hits over six shutout innings in a 9-0 win over the Mets his last time out.

For the Rangers: Texas has struggled mightily against the Yankees in recent years. They lost five of six meetings last year and 20 of 26 games since the start of 2005 … Slugging centerfielder Josh Hamilton ranks atop the AL in homers (19) and runs batted in (79). He is also in the top 10 for batting average (10th - .312), runs (9th – 52), slugging percentage (4th – 565), and OPS (6th – 9.27) … 2B Ian Kinsler has a 12-game hitting streak. He is batting .429 (21-for-49) with three homers and eight RBI during the stretch … The Rangers lead the league in runs scored (456) and are tied for second in batting average (.280) … RHP Scott Feldman ha never won on the road; he is 0-7 with a 6.72 ERA in 43 appearances – five starts.
