Arkansas L/R, 6-0, 193
Hometown: Wylie, Tx.

STATUS: Signed, Reporting to Charleston (A).

With their 27th round selection in the 2008 MLB Draft, the New York Yankees bolstered the organization’s catching depth with Arkansas backstop Jeff Nutt. Although Nutt missed part of his senior season, the left-handed hitting receiver hit .265 with five home runs and 20 RBI in 30 games.

Nutt is a line-drive hitter and a hard-nosed player. He possesses good receiving skills behind the plate with a strong arm that is aided by a quick transfer and release.

In his junior season, Nutt started 51 games – 14 behind the plate – and hit .274 with a team-best 16 doubles and 41 RBI. Taking most of his hacks in the cleanup spot, Nutt swung a consistent bat in SEC play and posted a .288 average in conference action with 10 doubles, three home runs and 22 RBI.

After appearing in one game with Staten Island, Nutt was moved to Charleston.
