Around the Minors (22-June-2008)

A quick snapshot of how the Baby Bombers faired tonight:

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre 6, Columbus 0
  • OF Brett Gardner (.295 AVG) went 2-for-4 tonight against Columbus. He ripped a triple (his league-leading 10th), walked and gunned out a runner at home.
  • 1B Juan Miranda (.319 AVG) continued his hot hitting. Miranda went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
  • C J.D. Closser (.211 AVG) was perfect at the plate. The 28-year-old non-prospect went 3-for-3 with two doubles and two runs scored.
  • LHP Kei Igawa (3.47 ERA) pitched 6 2/3 innings en route to his seventh win. Igawa scattered seven hits and two walks, striking out six.
  • RHP David Robertson (1.74 ERA) pitched an inning and a third. He added two more strike outs to his season total.
  • RHP Scott Patterson (2.90 ERA) threw a perfect ninth to close out the win.
Trenton 4, Erie 3
  • RHP Mark Melancon (1.57 ERA) pitched three scoreless innings to earn his first Double-A save. Melancon allowed one hit and struck out two.
  • OF Austin Jackson (.282 AVG) went 1-for-4 at the dish.
  • OF Jose Tabata (.232 AVG) had one hit in three at bats.
  • OF Colin Curtis (.249 AVG) went 1-for-2 with a pair of walks.
Tampa 7-0, Daytona 6-2 (Doubleheader)
  • DH C.J. Henry (.286 AVG) had three hits in four at bats - Game 1.
  • OF Tim Battle (.240 AVG) went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI - Game 1.
  • RHP Ivan Nova (5.17 ERA) surrendered six runs on 10 hits in seven innings - Game 1.
  • 3B Mitch Hilligoss (.255 AVG) had two hits in three at bats - Game 2.
  • RHP Zach McAllister (2.79 ERA) was saddled with his third loss of the season despite pitching well. McAllister went six innings and allowed one hit (a homer) - Game 2.

Aberdeen 4, Staten Island 1

GCL Yankees

  • RHP Ian Kennedy (3.00 ERA), rehabing a strained lat muscle, pitched three innings in the Gulf Coast League. Kennedy pitched three innings, surrendered one run and struck out seven.
