Princeton R/R, 6-1, 190
Hometown: Portola Valley, Ca.

STATUS: Signed, Reporting to GCL Yankees (Rookie)

Selected by the New York Yankees in the 31st round of last week’s MLB Draft, Spencer Lucian is a versatile player who spent significant time at second base, third base, and centerfield at Princeton. This season he earned first-team All-Ivy League honors, leading the Tigers in batting average (.425) and hits (62). He was second in RBIs, total bases and extra-base hits.

Lucian, a senior draftee, posted a .511 on base percentage for the season. He exhibited a very patient approach at the plate and saw a lot of pitches, rarely swinging at the first pitch. The Yankees will move him to second base, where his limited power (4 HRs in 2008) will play better.
